silk quilt

I was wandering around my parents' bedroom while on the phone with EP, and discovered a folded up quilt, the edges of which looked intriguing. Pinned to the back of the quilt is a note in my grandmother's handwriting:
Very old silk quilt. Made in 1800s. Given to [my great-grandmother] by elderly lady in 1940s.
Of course, I had to open it up and inspect. I'm in love.

Good eats and nostalgia
Tonight, my parents and I went into Philly for dinner at Monk's - a belgian mussel/frites/beer place. Delicious in every way. Aside from my parents, everyone seemed to be my peers, in an attractive, collegiate sort of way. Made me almost excited for starting school. However, I found myself thinking of friends I'd like to bring there, but then realized that my friends were in NYC, and I was in Philly, and they probably weren't interested in the suggestion.

On the way home, we stopped at the Maple Shade Custard Stand and got the best soft serve I can ever remember having. Now, I think pretty highly of both Carvel and DQ (as opposed to the vastly inferior mr. softee), but this - wow. All the other cars pulling up were filled with deeply tanned, relaxed teenagers, bittersweetly enjoying their last week of summer vacation.

I also managed to fall walking from Monk's back to my parents' car. Now, I fall a lot. Sober, drunk, it doesn't matter. My sophomore year of college, a few of my friends aptly referred to me as "falling girl." However, this may have been the first time my parents saw me in top falling form. I inherited weak ankles (and wrists) from my mother, and they do this thing where they all of a sudden snap out and then back in. Now, sometimes (regardless of my sobriety) I recover, though never gracefully. Other times, however, like tonight, I find myself sprawled across the sidwalk/road/meadow... the picture of grace. Sure, my super-cute white opened-toed espadrilles didn't help, but this could have happened wearing keds. Not surprisingly, my poor parents were quite amazed at both my clumsiness, and my resilience. Up and at 'em, ready for my next fall.
moving anxieties
How does a person get their stuff cross-country? Cheaply, I mean. My current plan is to go with a common carrier ($.33/lb). However, this means that on the otherside, I need to somehow get it off the truck. Stressing me out, this is. Just like most things going on right now.

bored in new jersey
I grew up in suburbia and managed to fill my time, but the past couple of days have been endless. How did i do it in my youth? Oh wait, I went to school. Or I had a CAR. I've been anti-automobile the last few years of my life, but now I understand. They get you from A to B. I'm not giving up my love for the mta yet, however.
I finally did it.
After some nudging from friends, I've gone and made a blog. Right now, it's the lowest tech, easiest version of this thing. If I like it, I'll go and make it better, I promise.
